In 1997 Jennifer graduated from Western Illinois University with
a Bachelor Of Arts degree in Art Education with a concentration in sculpture and certification to teach K-12, Art. Immediately
after graduating Jennifer was recruited to serve as the 3-Dimensional Instuctor in the Danville High School
Art Department in Danville, Illinois. Here Jennifer began to intensely explore clay as a functional medium of art.
She and her students experimented with different techniques of handbuilding, decorating and firing. To become further
educated in the mechanics and history of ceramics, Jennifer regularly attended workshops and seminars across the
U.S. featuring many accomplished artists.
During the summer and fall of 2001, Jennifer took a leave of absence
from teaching to apprentice with three clay artists in Maryland: Robert Carlson and Jennifer and Mark Hatfield.
All very successful and accomplished artists and business owners.
Here Jennifer was trained in the art of altering wheel thrown vessels,
and different methods of paint and glaze decoration. Set in the dense forests of the Appalachian Mountains, the environment
lent well to outdoor firing techniques such as salt, wood and raku firing.
These three artists would become Jennifer's lifelong mentors and friends. They
encouraged her creativity and experimentation with clay and allowed her room to grow and mature as an idependent artist.
Today Jennifer lives and works in her home studio in Westmont, Illinois. Her
work is ever evolving and becoming more and more exciting as she creates a unique niche for herself in the world
of clay.
